About ExpandUp

We are an embedded finance
architecture firm.

Not a vendor. Not a BaaS provider. Not a broker. We sit on your side of the table — every recommendation is made in your interest, not the infrastructure layer's.

Built for accountability

Built by operators who were accountable for the outcome

ExpandUp was built for leaders who cannot afford advice detached from implementation reality. We have owned revenue, operations, compliance, product, bank relationships, and execution at scale — not as advisors observing from the outside, but as operators responsible for the result.

The proof points on this page are not credentials. They are outcomes we were accountable for: 42% of payments monetized — revenue capture at scale. $350M AP payments revenue — scale economics built and operated. $0 to $1B digital bank — launch execution delivered. $80B+ annual payment volume — operator credibility at the only level that matters.

Why ExpandUp Exists

Founded in 2025 — built from the problem, not around it.

When Sean Graham was running a $350M AP payments revenue business, he saw the same struggle playing out across SaaS companies, fintechs, and enterprises: teams trying to implement, monetize, and scale payments without the architectural foundation to do it right. The vendor conversations happened before the program design conversations. The economics were defined by default. The compliance frameworks were adapted from templates rather than designed for the specific program.

Having built multiple payments businesses and platforms, a bank, and numerous financial services innovations — and having worked for some of the most mission-driven companies in the US — Sean founded ExpandUp with a specific intent: to guide companies to greater value for their customers through payments programs that are designed correctly from the start, not rebuilt after the fact.

ExpandUp is headquartered in Charlotte, NC — one of the largest financial services markets in the United States — and serves embedded finance programs across the US.

What We Do

We design the architecture layer that most programs skip.

We work with companies building embedded payments, card programs, B2B payment infrastructure, and lending-adjacent products. Our work is the architecture layer — the program model, economics, bank partner structure, compliance framework, and infrastructure selection that happens before the build begins.

Our foundation is built on decades of hands-on experience driving significant, quantifiable change in payments technology and fintech. We leverage payments as a strategic asset to reduce costs, increase revenue, and automate core business processes.

We sit on your side of the table. Every architecture decision we make is designed to maximize your program economics, compliance positioning, and long-term flexibility — not the vendor's take rate.

Architecture first
The program model, economics, and compliance framework are defined before any vendor conversation. The architecture is the client's — not the vendor's default.
Sequenced decisions
Bank partner selection follows program model definition. Infrastructure selection follows compliance design. The order matters as much as the components.
Revenue designed in
Interchange economics, float structure, and fee design are part of the architecture — not discovered after the program is built.
We have built the systems.
We have built payments systems, ledgers, lending, and monetization platforms. The architecture we recommend is not theoretical — it comes from having done it.
The Team

Decades of operator experience in payments, fintech, and embedded finance.

Our background is rooted in delivering impactful, measurable outcomes — not advisory frameworks. We've owned P&Ls, built programs from scratch, negotiated with sponsor banks, and run the compliance programs banks examine.

Sean Graham
Founder

Specializes in the critical intersection of Finance, Operations, and Product Strategy — with a track record that includes achieving 42% payments monetization (vs. an industry average of 5–15%), AI-driven payment delivery, and building a digital bank from zero to $1B in under 12 months and $4B in 5 years. Launched 20+ payments and lending products. Converted 4 million checks to epayments with a 12-point improvement in electronic adoption.

Lending operator experience spans $26B in digital mortgage origination, $4B in auto and consumer lending, credit card sales leadership at a $40B bank, and Chief Lending Officer at a de novo bank launching mortgage and home equity products.
